Official Oyster Shucking Contests have been around for over 60 years, and unofficially - since Humans started Shuckin’Around.
The Art of Shucking is using Sharp knife to break open rock-hard shells and reveal the salty sweet meat within. The hard part is 1. Not stabbing yourself, and 2. Not stabbing the Oyster.
There are many different Oyster Shucking contest formats around the World.
At AwShucks Oyster Fest we will showcase 3 styles - Local - 12 Oysters, Canadian Champs - 18 Oysters and World’s 30.
Friday - Open and Novice Shuckers - 12 Oysters - a sprint - to get your feet wet in the Contest World. Top 3 make it to the ProInvitational, Saturday
Saturday - Pro Invitational - these Shuckers have been around the Block, and are ready to Pop&Drop - Set in Heats of 3, every 2 Hours of the Fest - Shucking 18 Oysters based on the Canadian Shucking Champs. Shucked and Presented to the judges…The Top 6 will head to the Finals on Sunday.
Sunday - Based on the World Championships of Galway Ireland, The Finals are a Set of 30 Barstool Oysters. A Much Longer contest than most, Endurance plays a factor on the Top 6!
